On September 26th, 2017, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the Field of Population Genetics (Approval Notice).
General Field: Population Genetics
Position at the Time of Case Filing: Postdoctoral Research Scientist
Country of Origin: Zambia
State of Residence at the Time of Filing: New York
Approval Notice Date: September 26th, 2017
Processing Time: 11 months, 9 days
Case Summary:
Nearly a year after North America Immigration Law Group (NAILG) filed an EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) petition on behalf of a postdoctoral research scientist from Zambia, the USCIS approved her case. With a doctoral degree and ample experience carrying out research in the field of population genetics, our client seemed like the ideal candidate for the national interest waiver.
Building a strong NIW case:
By the time we were ready to file our client’s petition, we had gathered a wealth of information related to her achievements as a top-notch researcher. From the 1,360 times her work was cited to the 10 publications in her name, we listed it all. Arguably one of the most important aspects of our client’s NIW petition covered her work on the analysis of large-scale genomic data. We used this information to convince the USCIS that our client’s research efforts are contributing to the United States’ improved management of animal diseases in pets and livestock, which in turn contributes to decreased spending on veterinary care as well as decreased risks of animal-transmitted diseases.
Several other influential members of the scientific community lent their support to our client through recommendation letters. These letters contained information on not just our client’s research projects but their significance to the United States as well. As an example, this is a statement taken from one of these letters: “Only a handful of scientists can even hope to achieve major new findings in the course of their careers, and [Client] has improved our understanding of genomics to an extent that I do not believe anyone else in the field can presently match. Considering the speed with which [Client] has gained such a glowing reputation, it is clear that she is deserving of every opportunity available to continue her research in the United States.”
Despite the lengthy wait (over 11 months), our client finally secured the national interest waiver. We congratulate her for overcoming this significant hurdle in the green card process, and we thank her for retaining our services to help her adjust her status for permanent residence by filing an I-485 application.
