General Field: Materials Science
Position at the Time of Case Filing: Research Scientist
Country of Origin: Turkey

Approval Notice Date: May 13th, 2021
Processing Time: 7 months, 9 days
Case Summary:
A research scientist with a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering contacted North America Immigration Law Group to file an NIW (National Interest Waiver) petition on his behalf. We commenced evaluating his research thoroughly, and our hard-working team members insisted that our client held suitable credentials to file the I-140 petition. We noted that his research focused on synthesizing and characterizing super hard materials and piezo energetic materials with real-world applications. Also, we highlighted that his research is of great importance because it centers on developing scalable and efficient techniques for synthesizing highly applicable materials.
Besides, we asked him to provide us with a few signed recommendation letters from other experts in the field. Thus, he compiled five recommendation letters signed by his fellow independent researchers from around the world, corroborating that the United States benefits from our client’s presence as he pursues his research goals, and one of them stated the following:
“[Client] has repeatedly demonstrated himself to be irreplaceable in this field. His talents have led to some improvements in how we produce boron nitride materials through extensive experimentation and investigation. Furthermore, his insights into improving boron nitride materials are applicable to the synthesis of other common materials, further expanding the value of his research endeavors. There are few capable of producing such studies, and so his continuing research is worth facilitating.”
In the light of his research’s clear national importance, it has been supported with funding from the Office of Naval Research and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. These funding grants are reserved for research directed at advancing the national interest, including research centered on enabling progress in science and technology for the good of national security.
We also recorded that at the time of filing, our client had gathered 58 citations from the 11 peer-reviewed journal articles (5 of them first-authored) 1 conference article, and 2 book chapters (1 of them first-authored) he published in no fewer than 5 highly ranked peer-reviewed journals. In addition, his knowledge and expertise have been well acknowledged since he has been invited to conduct peer review for elite journals in the field, confirming that he is seen as very knowledgeable in the field and an expert in topics related to his proposed research work.
For years we have gathered unprecedented insights into what USCIS is looking for when adjudicating petitions. We take pride in how our team members diligently help our clients to move closer to achieving the green card. Therefore, in this case, as well, we were able to persuade USCIS that our client is an invaluable asset to the United States and he must continue his work which certainly impressed USCIS, and our client was granted the NIW approval 7 months after we filed his case. We truly thank and congratulate him for associating with the North America Immigration Law Group and achieving this milestone.
