Case Summary:

An expert in neuroscience from Pakistan with a proposed endeavor to work on the application of novel neurological sequencing techniques came to us for her NIW (National Interest Waiver) petition. She wanted to investigate the biomechanics of the human brain and reduce the burden of mental illness. So it is evident that her research advancing her proposed endeavor is of great importance because it pertains to the application of advanced neurological sequencing techniques and the assessment of prominent disorders with the goal of better understanding the mechanisms underlying these disorders and developing new treatments. Her particular expertise in the analysis of schizophrenia is of global value, as this disorder currently impacts the lives of roughly 20 million people on an international basis.

This is why one of her recommendations said:

“As a world leader in medicine, technology, and human rights, the United States must take steps to address the global burden of schizophrenia. [The client’s] studies are essential in this effort. Her findings not only illuminate the biophysical and biochemical processes that underlie the symptoms of schizophrenia. With this information, scientists will be able to develop novel, more reliable treatments as well as psychotherapies for schizophrenia.”

We were also able to find that this proposed endeavor has broad implications for the United States. Our client outlined her dedication to applying highly advanced neurological and biochemical techniques while studying diseases in order to drive progress in treatment development and medical care. This work was of clear value to the United States, as disorders like schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease, and diabetes continue to exert substantial strain on the population.

It was due to its clear national importance, that her research has been supported with funding from the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, and another one of her recommendations read:

“[The client’s] research is of great value to American society. Her innovative methods clarify important neurological features of schizophrenia that were previously unknown. Moreover, her findings elucidate avenues for further research and the development of new clinical techniques for managing schizophrenia.”

On the other hand, academically her research has resulted in four peer-reviewed journal articles that have been cited a total of 50 times according to Google Scholar. Furthermore, we found that she has pursued research directly related to her proposed endeavor for four years, giving her the necessary experience to continue working in the field.

So, once we had put together her petition, and included every necessary detail of her academic and professional career along with her letters of recommendation, we knew that her NIW approval would come through.
