On April 22nd, 2022, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Microfabrication Engineer in the Field of Electrical Engineering (Approval Notice).
General Field: Electrical Engineering
Position at the Time of Case Filing: Microfabrication Engineer
Country of Origin: South Korea
State of Residence at the Time of Filing: California
Approval Notice Date: April 22nd, 2022
Processing Time: 2 months, 5 days
Case Summary:
Working in the field of electrical engineering for the past 8 years, a microfabrication engineer wanted to file for NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval. This is when he asked for our help in this matter. As an expert in the area, his proposed endeavor was to utilize device fabrication techniques and bio-signal processing to develop innovative neural devices. He wanted to treat brain disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease, and advance neuroscience research that aims to better understand the brain. Since his work directly addresses complicated and long-standing neuroscience problems, it was evidently of great interest to the global community.
The United Nations has reported that up to 1 billion people, nearly one in six of the world’s population, suffer from neurological disorders. These disorders include Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, strokes, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and migraines. Our client’s research has addressed this issue by fabricating neural devices capable of providing accurate measurements and readings while in vivo. His research also has broad implications for the United States, since according to U.S. Pharmacist, twenty million Americans experience some form of neuropathy and 16% of U.S. households contain an individual with brain impairment according to U.S. Pharm.
It was due to its clear national importance that his research has also been supported with funding from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency, showing that his work is indeed valuable. At the same time, his research has resulted in 13 peer-reviewed journal articles (4 of them first-authored), 1 book chapter, and 3 published patents. These publications have been cited a total of 807 times according to Google Scholar, thereby demonstrating that these publications are widely recognized in the field of electrical engineering.
The evidence we collected also shows that his research on utilizing device fabrication techniques and bio-signal processing to develop innovative neural devices in order to treat brain disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease, and advance neuroscience research that aims to better understand the brain holds significant value for understanding and treating neurological disorders. Thus he is uniquely well-positioned to pursue this work considering the breadth of his many years of experience as well as his leadership and expertise in the field.
These arguments helped us win his approval quickly. We congratulate our client on this victory and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
