Success Stories: A Medical Advisor from Taiwan Working in the Field of Neuroscience Got NIW Approval with Our Help

On August 17th, 2021, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Medical Advisor in the Field of Neuroscience (Approval Notice).

General Field: Neuroscience

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Medical Advisor

Country of Origin: Taiwan

Approval Notice Date: August 17th, 2021

Processing Time: 10 months, 12 days

Case Summary:

Armed with a Ph.D. in medical neuroscience, a client from Taiwan approached NAILG in October of 2020 seeking our help to represent her for her NIW (National Interest Waiver) case at USCIS. As a medical advisor working in the field of neuroscience, her proposed endeavor was to continue to pursue work focusing on precisely identifying the causes of specific neurological and neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, by researching antibody targets and neurodegeneration-related proteins for the development of pharmaceuticals. She had also planned to review data to create a protocol for the preclinical trials of treatments of frontotemporal dementia, which currently does not have any FDA-approved therapies. This information was supported by relevant documentation which our experts used in her personalized petition packet in order to prove the veracity of her claim to the NIW category.

Having conducted a thorough background check, we took the attorney-client relationship forward. This meant we were responsible for making the entire process as legible as possible for our client and helping her make the best decisions in this regard. Thus, we included the following information in her petition:

  • Her work has resulted in 2 peer-reviewed journal articles (1 of them first-authored). Moreover, these papers have been published in the top journals in the field.
  • She has not only completed successful research in the field; her work has also gone on to influence her peers and colleagues. Her publications have been cited a total of 99 times according to Google Scholar.

At the same time some of the recommendations that she obtained from experts in her field had the following to say of her work:

“[Client] has clearly proven to be a valuable asset to the global research community. Her work also has important implications for the United States, as she highlighted the GABAergic neuron input and output modifications that take place in response to glutamatergic innervation. This research has numerous ramifications for the development of a more complete scientific comprehension of the pathophysiology underlying neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease. [Client’s] work has produced important new information and a valuable synaptic model pertinent to ongoing Alzheimer’s disease research. Her culture system helps to uncover the factors that lead to neurological diseases as well as the establishment of therapeutic approaches to Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological conditions. As a result, [client’s] innovative work establishes her as one of the foremost young scholars in the field of neuroscience. As such, I urge you to allow [the client] to continue her research efforts in the United States.”

We are hence proud and satisfied that we were able to help this brilliant scholar get her NIW application accepted and we wish her the best in life, of which we are sure she is more than capable.
