General Field: Biomedical Science

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Postdoctoral Fellow

National Origin:  China

Service Center: Nebraska Service Center (NSC)

State of Residence at the Time of Filing:  California

Approval Notice Date: November 18, 2013

Processing Time:  1 month, 1 day (10 days after request for Premium Processing)

Case Summary:

The client that we had the pleasure of working with in this case was a Postdoctoral Fellow from China working in the field of biomedical science.  Her work had primarily focused on elucidating the specific molecular mechanisms implicated in pain sensitization and kidney injury.  Not only had her results pinpointed the specific roles played by microRNAs, C5a receptors, sensory neuron-mast signaling and epigenetic signaling in the development of pain sensitization, but she had even conducted groundbreaking studies concerning the influence of dietary methyl donor content on patients’ individualized pain sensitivity and opioids responses.  Her work had resulted in at least 16 peer-reviewed scientific articles; at the time that her case was filed, these publications had accumulated at least 121 citations.  This served as objective evidence of her major influence and impact on the field of endeavor, in addition to her sustained international acclaim.  In addition, she had conducted 86 paper reviews for journals related to the field of biomedical science.  The following quote from an independent recommender testifies as to the value of our client’s research, “[Her] work is an especially novel exploration of the fundamental intracellular signaling pathway leading to miR-203-associated pain sensing and signaling in keratinocytes. … her work is not only a significant leap for research advances in this area, but promises to be of clinical significance as well…. [her] study provides the first evidence that exposure to a high methyl donor diet in the perinatal period enhanced opioid-induced physical dependence… Conclusive results from [her] subsequent studies may definitely support the development of guidelines for the judicious use of methyl donor supplements in future public health policies.” It was our goal to prove that our client qualified for classification as an Alien of Extraordinary Ability given that she sought to remain in the United States to continue work in the area of biomedical science, and that her continued research would substantially and prospectively benefit the United States. With the proof and documentation that we provided, her case was approved in just over 1 month.
