Case Summary:
Our Ph.D. client in the field of electrical engineering sought assistance from the North America Immigration Law Group to facilitate the filing of an EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) petition on his behalf. Before we endorsed the attorney-client agreement, we meticulously evaluated his qualifications. Gathering from his academic research and professional achievements, we were resolute in guiding him toward securing the national interest waiver. Our responsibility entailed demonstrating to the USCIS the paramount significance of his proposed research not only for the advancement of the bioinformatics sector but also for the technological landscape in the United States. Henceforth, we initiated the preparation of his case and emphasized the following key points in his NIW petition dossier:
- We detailed his pioneering research on designing models and algorithms for extracting meaningful signals from large-scale multi-omics databases and emerging analytical technologies to advance the understanding of the brain, its functions, and age-related nervous system disorders, with special attention to glial cells, and we concluded that it is of great importance because it addresses the escalating challenge of treating and managing brain diseases.
- In addition, we noted that his new models and algorithms lay the groundwork for more precise and effective therapies, improving the approach to treating neurodegenerative illnesses and mental disorders. Due to its clear national importance, his research has been supported with funding from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the National Institute of Health, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Therefore, his research indeed provides insights into the heterogeneity of microglia and their roles in brain development and neurodegenerative diseases and their links to brain health.
- Besides, we demonstrated that his study produced 9 peer-reviewed journal articles (1 of them first-authored), 2 peer-reviewed conference articles (one of them first-authored), 2 abstracts, and 2 preprints. Furthermore, these studies have been published in the best journals in his area, demonstrating that his colleagues recognize the importance of this study. He has published papers in 8 highly ranked peer-reviewed journals.
- He has not only effectively conducted and disseminated the outcomes of his study in the field but has also exerted influence on his colleagues through his research. His scholarly works have garnered a cumulative total of 1,159 citations, underscoring the broad acknowledgment and utilization of these publications within the field of bioinformatics.
- Owing to his profound understanding of the field, he has been consistently requested to undertake peer evaluations for reputable journals within the discipline of bioinformatics. Having successfully conducted no less than 13 reviews thus far, he is widely regarded as a highly knowledgeable individual and an authority on subjects pertinent to his envisioned pursuit.
- Before submitting the petition packet to the USCIS, we needed to include the two letters of support he received from fellow professionals to back up his argument. As a result, one of his recommenders expressed the following.
“I am writing in support of [client’s] continued research in the field of bioinformatics. He is a talented bioinformatics researcher who has made significant contributions to this field, including developing original advanced computational models… His impactful research efforts, in addition to his peer-review services, attest to the substantial importance of his work and the merit of his research within bioinformatics.”
Therefore, we are delighted to announce that through the collaborative efforts of our team and the supportive cooperation of our client, significant progress has been achieved in validating the advancement of our client’s innovative contributions in the field of bioinformatics, thereby supporting the United States prominence in the fields of biology and medical sciences. Remarkably, the USCIS adjudicated our client’s NIW case within a mere 5-day period, without necessitating a Request for Evidence (RFE). We express our sincere gratitude to our client for entrusting our law firm and extend our spirited congratulations for this significant achievement.
