Case Summary:

“While obesity is prevalent worldwide, it is exceptionally pervasive in the United States, with an estimated national obesity prevalence of 42.4% from 2017 to 2018. Our client from the Republic of Korea got these recommendations from experts in the field of neuroscience for his significant contribution to this area of study. So when he came to us for his I-140 National Interest Waiver application, we worked with him and wove these recommendations into his petition to make them more substantial.

Other factors that we counted on while writing his petition were:

• As an expert in the field, his proposed endeavor was to work on elucidating the molecular mechanisms involved in XXX regulation. He wanted to identify XXX-related genes as drug targets for the treatment of metabolic disorders.
• His research endeavor was of great importance because it was crucial for providing insight into how cellular transcription, metabolism, and physiology are all dictated by XXX. His work provided a meaningful avenue for new research targeting metabolic diseases. This made his research illuminating the components of XXX essential for providing new treatment options to mitigate the pressing threat of metabolic diseases.
• More specifically, his proposed endeavor also had broad implications for the United States where diabetes is becoming more and more prevalent, doubling over the last twenty years due to the country’s increasingly aging and obese population.
• Due to its clear national importance, his research had also been supported with funding managed by Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT, the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute on Aging (NIA), and the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Not only this but on the academic front too he has completed at least two reviews to date and his research has resulted in 10 peer-reviewed journal articles (2 of them first-authored) and one patent. These publications have also been cited a total of 715 times according to Google Scholar, thereby demonstrating that these publications are widely recognized and relied upon in the field of neuroscience.

Thus with 4 recommendations and 16 years of service behind his back, he was truly transforming the field with his research. This is perhaps why his approval did not take very long. We are proud of having worked with him and we wish him all the very best in his future endeavors.
