“[The client’s] research on chromosomal stability is an important contribution to efforts to treat cancer, as chromosomal instability increases the risk of mutation within a cell’s DNA and therefore the chance that cancer could develop. Her work on identifying the specific centromeric location of instability within the chromosome is critical to the development of targeted therapies to treat and ideally prevent the formation of cancer and improve the survival rates and quality of life for millions of Americans.”

“[The client’s] research has significant value for the United States. She has illuminated crucial new information on the molecular origins of chromosomal aberrations in human cells and opened important new vectors for understanding cancer’s emergence. Her research helps build the foundation for effective new techniques in diagnosis and treatment, greatly lessening the overall burden cancer places on the American population and helping medical practitioners protect and maintain the public health of the United States.”

These statements are for an expert in internal medicine from Singapore who had come to us for her NIW(National Interest Waiver). They were written by other experts who knew her work and thought of it as significant for the United States. As is evident from the statements, the expert, our client, was indeed a valuable part of the scientific community in the country.

Our team made sure that her academic and professional excellence was portrayed to her benefit in the petition. For this we said the following:

• Her research advancing her proposed endeavor is of great importance to global health because it elucidates the genomic and epigenetic mechanisms that lead to or, at times, cause debilitating and deadly diseases.
• Her insightful contributions enlighten novel pathways to diagnose, treat, and manage these deadly conditions, which, as shown, is incredibly valuable to the health of millions of people worldwide. And her proposed endeavor also has broad implications for public health and economic development in the United States, as it introduces unique knowledge to serve as a basis to develop more effective therapies to treat and prevent disease.
• Due to its clear national importance, her research has in fact been supported with funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)and the March of Dimes Foundation.
• Her research has resulted in 2 peer-reviewed journal articles and 2 abstracts (1 of them first-authored).
• Not only has she successfully completed and published the results of her research in the field, but her research has also gone on to influence her peers. That is, her publications have been cited a total of 112 times according to Google Scholar.
• She has also pursued research directly related to her proposed endeavor of developing systems-level approaches to advance the state of the art in disease diagnosis, treatment, and management for 7 years.

And finally, the 4 letters of recommendation we added to her petition packet improved her chances of winning the approval. Despite the RFE, when she received the approval in 10 months and 17 days, we were happy to have been of aid to her in the process.
