Case Summary:

“Nanotechnology allows for the delivery of treatment at a previously unheard-of level, accessing and interacting with biomolecules throughout the body. [The client’s] knowledge of biomedical engineering and its use in cancer treatment is important to expedite biotechnologies research in the United States. His unique drug carrier is just one example of the important advances he has made in his field and beyond.”

This statement was written praising the work of our client, a postdoctoral scholar from Nepal working in the field of biotechnologies. As an NIW (National Interest Waiver) client, we made him aware of the demands of the USCIS from the applicant. This led us to look into his academic and professional documents and collect information relevant to prove him an essential cog in the scientific community of the U.S. Some of the facts we collected are:

• As an expert in the field, his proposed endeavor is to continue his research on utilizing biomedical engineering in cancer research and development in order to improve health outcomes for patients.
• His research is of great importance because it has an incredible impact on the major global public health issue of cancer. In 2020, cancer accounted for almost 10 million deaths worldwide. This is why another one of his recommenders said:

“Beyond research circles, [the client’s] work has a larger impact on cancer as a public health issue. The World Health Organization reports that cancer is the primary cause of death across the globe. The disease led to approximately 10 million deaths in 2020 alone. [The client’s] exploration of CTCs and the creation of microfluidic models greatly inform the overall research of metastasis. Furthermore, his investigation into SS provides a unique alternative for patients with limited treatment options.”

• On the other hand, due to his knowledge and expertise in cancer research and the application of physical and natural science in medicine, he has been regularly invited to conduct peer reviews where he has completed at least 2 reviews to date.
• With his expertise and record of success, he is considered a leader in the field of biotechnologies and he has worked on the editorial board for multiple publications.
• His research has resulted in 14 peer-reviewed journal and conference articles (6 of them first-authored). Not only this but his research has also gone on to influence his peers. That is, his publications have been cited a total of 272 times.
• His study has also been supported by funding from the Singapore MOE, and the Science and Technology Development Fund of Macau. The University of Macau’s Start-Up Research Grant, the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Nepal, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and the Biomedical Research Council have also supported his study.
• Not only this but he has pursued research directly related to his proposed endeavor of utilizing biomedical engineering in cancer research and development for 8 years.

These factors when counted went a long way in proving his value for the U.S. Once his filing was complete, we had to wait less than 4 months before we got the approval. We are proud of having worked with him and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
