Case Summary:

A client from the Democratic Republic of Congo came to North America Immigration (NAILG) seeking help with her NIW (National Interest Waiver) application. She needed our assistance to draft and file her petition and help her through to the approval. The application was to be such that it showcased her best work in the field and proved that her work was of interest to the United States of America. This was only possible if we collected evidence from her academic and professional documents. So, our team soon joined hands with the client and began work on her proposal. We found that:

• Her proposed endeavor was to continue examining the impact of paternal engagement in the prevention of early childhood obesity in order to shift the current focus from maternal-child health to maternal-paternal-child health within pediatric medicine, giving acknowledgment to the role that fathers play and to shape public policies such as parental leave.
  Her research was relevant to addressing diabetes in the United States and across the globe and thus was of great substantial merit and national importance.
• Her research was of great importance because it provided a novel and holistic approach to addressing patient care for children with obesity. These facts made it clear that her proposed endeavor provided unique and substantially important research to the field, benefiting public health immensely.
• Her research also had broad implications for the United States, since diabetes is a particularly salient problem in the United States, where approximately 34 million Americans suffer from the disease.
• Our client’s past research, which has centered on providing novel and holistic health services that mitigate economic and social disparities, is particularly important. By centering her work on paternal relationships with children with obesity, her work takes a unique approach to address this immense national challenge. Her work is thus instrumental to the health of the nation.
• At the same time, her research has resulted in 7 peer-reviewed journal articles which have been cited a total of 113 times according to Google Scholar.
• Furthermore, her study has received funding from the National Cancer Institute, the Boston Foundation, and the Maternal Child Health Bureau. These funds from national institutions make the relevance of her work even more evident.
• Her 6 years of work in the field of pediatrics have also made it possible for her to become a reliable member of the scientific community for which she received 4 letters of recommendation from other experts in her field. One of these letters had the following passage about the value of her work:

“Addressing issues of inequality within the United States healthcare system is of the utmost importance, whether entertaining the improvement of social equality or the enhancement of the health of the nation. The research being done by [the client] lies at the heart of this issue, addressing issues with access and quality of care through the careful measurements of specific interventions for limited-English proficiency patients, and improving childhood obesity rates by investing in the father-child connection in early life. Her work seeks to address these issues from both sides, social and medical, to provide the best outcomes for our citizens.”
