On August 19th, 2021, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Ph.D. Candidate in the Field of Electrical Engineering (Approval Notice).
General Field: Electrical Engineering
Position at the Time of Case Filing: Ph.D. Candidate
Country of Origin: Iran
State of Residence at the Time of Filing: California
Approval Notice Date: August 19th, 2021
Processing Time: 16 months, 8 days
Case Summary:
North America Immigration Law Group has a long-standing history of trust with clients who need legal aid in filing their petitions at USCIS. So, when a client from Iran working as a Ph.D. candidate in the field of electrical engineering approached us to help him file his NIW (National Interest Waiver) application, we took every care to build a solid case to prove the value of his work for the United States. For this, we had to conduct a thorough background check which provided us with the necessary information for filing his petition. It was then that we learned about his research work in detail and the contributions he had made over time in his and allied fields.
We found that his proposed endeavor is to continue his research on using control systems and optimization techniques to better understand the limitations and performance of optimization algorithms and address challenges with sensor/actuator selection in order to improve the robustness and efficiency of modern autonomous systems. This research has resulted in 3 peer-reviewed journal articles (2 of them first-authored) and 9 peer-reviewed conference articles (6 of them first-authored). These articles have also gone on to influence his peers. That is, his publications have been cited a total of 84 times according to Google Scholar.
On the balance, we also asked him to collect 5 letters of recommendation, of which 1 came from a dependent source and the rest from experts who knew our client only via his work. This aided us in proving the veracity of his claims. Excerpts from some of these are quoted below:
“[Client] is a researcher of superior ability, whose work on accelerated first-order optimization algorithms continues to influence the field of electrical engineering. Currently, the electrical engineering research community is focused on improving the robustness of large-scale optimization algorithms…To remain a leader in autonomous vehicle technologies, U.S. automakers require next-generation algorithms to select optimal sensor/actuator layouts and to ensure proper tradeoffs between robustness and efficiency.”
“On a broader scale, [client’s] work is of incredible importance to the United States given that the identification of accurate regions of attractions is a key component of determining if a control system is able to tolerate certain levels of perturbation. This kind of research thus comes into critical play in autonomous systems such as self-driving vehicles.”
We are thus proud to have been of aid to him in this process and we wish him the very best in his future projects.
