Success Stories: Visiting Scientist from Sri Lanka in the Field of Environmental Geochemistry Finally Receives NIW Approval After Over a Year of Waiting

Client’s Testimonial:

“Thank you for your support towards getting my petition approved.”

On August 27th, 2019, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Visiting Scientist in the Field of Environmental Geochemistry (Approval Notice).

General Field: Environmental Geochemistry

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Visiting Scientist

Country of Origin: Sri Lanka

State of Residence at the Time of Filing: Massachusetts

Approval Notice Date: August 27th, 2019

Processing Time: 1 year, 5 months, 22 days

Case Summary:

Nearly 18 months after North America Immigration Law Group (NAILG) filed an EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) on behalf of a visiting scientist from Sri Lanka, the USCIS finally approved her case. Her case was transferred twice, and we have raised service request on our client’s behalf and she even contacted her congressperson regarding the long wait which was over the average processing timeline. We are pleased that our client finally overcame this hurdle in the green card process and was granted the National Interest Waiver.

Based in Massachusetts, our client who holds a doctoral degree in chemical oceanography and has extensive experience in the field of environmental geochemistry is undoubtedly an outstanding researcher. Her consistent contributions to the field made her a suitable candidate for EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver), and after determining that we could help her build a solid case, we gathered an array of evidence to support the petition.

We successfully proved that our client’s work is of national interest and intrinsically valuable to the United States. Our client has made a notable impact upon the field by conducting research concerning the sorption and metabolism of explosives in the sediment of coastal marine ecosystems, which contributes to identify more effective methods for removing explosive-derived chemicals from the ecosystems. Further, we detailed her 8 peer-reviewed journal articles and the 110 times they were cited. Additionally, we established that her research effort on natural and anthropogenic compounds, in particular by evaluating explosive contamination levels in coastal military sites, is contributing to the safety of the U.S.’s natural environments as well as the health of the public.

As with all our clients, we advised her on the process of selecting suitable recommenders and obtaining their testimonials. These testimonials supported the approval of our client’s NIW petition and contained strong statements such as:
“[Client]’s efforts address the presence of discarded munitions in underwater environments and their negative environmental impacts, which is certainly a most pressing matter worldwide.”

We are delighted that our efforts led to her NIW approval. We also thank her for choosing us to work on the last step of the green card process: filing the I-485. For more information about I-485 Adjustment of Status, please visit: http://www.wegreened.com/I-485-adjustment-of-status
