On September 26th, 2017, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Ph.D. Candidate in the Field of Computer Science (Approval Notice).

General Field: Computer Science

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Ph.D. Candidate

Country of Origin: Bangladesh

State of Residence at the Time of Filing: Wisconsin

Approval Notice Date: September 26th, 2017

Processing Time: 10 months, 12 days

Case Summary:

The field of computer science has seen much progress since our client decided to dedicate his career to it. With 10 peer-reviewed conference and journal articles (7 of them first-authored) and one book chapter along with 38 citations gathered from his work, there is no doubt that our client is a force to be reckoned with.

After several months of hard work, we put together a strong NIW petition packet that highlighted our client’s various achievements. Among other things, we noted his work on real-time systems for pervasive and ubiquitous applications such as machine recognition and the prediction of human activities. We concluded that our client’s research results have directly contributed to the improvement of indoor and outdoor localization technologies, which are useful for voluntarily tracking individuals in crowded environments. Additionally, we persuaded the USCIS that his framework for recognizing human activities contributes to the United States’ ability to evaluate and adjust rehabilitation programs for injured individuals.

Besides that, we also included 6 recommendation letters contributed by other experts in the field. These letters advocated for the approval of our client’s NIW petition and they reiterated the significance of his work to the United States. According to one of these recommenders, an expert computer scientist: “I firmly believe that the research community at large could not have progressed as far as it has in terms of translation systems without [Client’s] work, and we continue to rely upon his talents and expertise today.”

Overall, the USCIS spent 10.5 months adjudicating our client’s petition before granting their approval. We are pleased that our client secured the national interest waiver and we thank him for retaining our I-485 services to help him and his spouse adjust their status for permanent residence.
