On September 1st, 2016, we received another EB-1A (Alien of Extraordinary Ability) approval for a Graduate Researcher in the Field of Materials Science (Approval Notice).
General Field: Materials Science
Position at the Time of Case Filing: Graduate Researcher
Country of Origin: China
Service Center: Nebraska Service Center (NSC)
State of Residence at the Time of Filing: California
Approval Notice Date: September 1st, 2016
Processing Time: 3 Days (Premium Processing Requested)
Case Summary:
Thanks to Premium Processing (PP), our client (a graduate researcher from China) received notification of EB-1A (Alien of Extraordinary Ability) approval just 3 days after filing. PP is an add-on option offered by the USCIS that allows petitioners to have their I-140 petitions processed within 15 calendar days (the norm is 4-9 months). Even so, we have no doubt that our meticulous presentation of our client’s solid credentials lent a hand in case approval.
What did our client’s petition dossier contain?
For one, it contained four recommendation letters signed by other experts working in the field of materials science. According to one of these experts: “Based on the research he has completed so far, it is obvious that [Client] is among the most skilled researchers in his specialty and that his work is of tremendous value to continued improvements and advancements in the field of materials science.” Besides these letters, we included data on our client’s achievements in the field such as his citation count and publication record. When we filed the case, our client’s 21 published journal papers and conference articles had gathered a whopping 472 citations. We also listed our client’s impressive peer review experience—30 peer reviews conducted for a variety of high-impact scientific journals.
One of the most important elements of our client’s EB-1A petition had to do with his research. We carefully reviewed his research summary and determined that his investigations on synthesizing new materials and developing novel experimental techniques address some of the United States’ most pressing issues in understanding and exploiting the inherent properties of nanomaterials. We also proved that his findings are applied in the development of more efficient solar cells for green energy production and semiconducting nanostructures for energy harvesting and storage.
Because we were able to prove that our client is an important member of the American scientific community and that halting his work in the country would be detrimental to the nation, the USCIS was persuaded to approve his EB-1A petition. We congratulate our client for overcoming this significant hurdle in the complex green card process and we wish him well as adjusts his status for permanent residence.
